Abstract

A comparison of prematurely and maturely born children of average intelligence revealed relatively inferior performance on a large battery of kindergarten tests on the part of the prematures. Although there were indications of accelerated progress in some areas, the prematures continued to lag in academic achievement well into the eighth year of life.
