Abstract

This paper compares the electromagnetic performance of the interior permanent magnet synchronous machines (IPMSM) with conventional and consequent pole (CP) rotors, where the 12-slot stator and 10-pole rotor with concentrated windings are employed. Multi-objective optimization is performed in this paper. Both the conventional and CP rotors are optimized by genetic algorithm to achieve the maximum torque/PM volume and minimum torque ripple. Then the electromagnetic characteristics of the two machines, which including back-EMFs, torque characteristic, flux-weakening ability and efficiency are extensively compared. Finally, a conclusion could be reached by FEA that by using the CP rotor model, the machine can offer higher torque and efficiency, lower cogging torque and torque ripple, and better flux-weakening speed expansion performance.
