Abstract

In this paper, several linear and nonlinear autoregressive models on the classic Canadian lynx data are compared through analyzing their residuals by some conventional nonparametric test statistics as well as by a new test statistic, called BDS statistic. The BDS statistic is originated from chaos theory and has been shown very effective in identifying nonlinear structure in dynamic systems from their observations.
