Abstract
Botulinum toxin A(BoNT-A) is a kind of neurotoxin which leads to muscle paralysis effect and has been used in the management of strabismus for over 30 years. For certain types of strabismus, extraocular muscle injection of therapy dose of BoNT-A has its unique advantages with few side effects. It is relatively effective and safe in the clinic since it can be recovered shortly. Compared with surgical treatment, injection of BoNT-A into extraocular muscles is safe, simple, reversible and noninvasive. The purpose of this review provides an overview of the efficacy of BoNT-A in the treatment of strabismus. Key words: Botulinum toxin A (BoNT-A); Strabismus; Treatment
