Abstract
Red cell rheology was measured rheology in a group of 100 diabetic patients as part of a study designed to investigate the possible importance of red cell hemorheology on the progression of microcirculatory complications. As there is no generally accepted for the measurement of cell deformability, this variable was assessed by four previously reported methods in parallel: whole blood filtration (Reid et al.), micropipette aspiration (McMillan et al.), centrifugal packing (Sirs) and packed red cell viscometry (Dintenfass).
