Abstract

Breast Milk or Human Milk is a complex fluid providing the infant with optimal nutrition and immunological protection. In the Siulak Kecil Public Medical Centre, there were 130 (75%) postpartum women with Exclusive Breastfeeding and 42 (24.9%) with Hybrid Breastfeeding. The adequacy of breast milk volume doesn’ t fulfill the infants. This study aimed to compare Vigna Cylindrica leaves and Carica Papaya leaves to increased breast milk volume. There were 16 participants were divided into group A and B. The postpartum women day-2, without serious complication as inclusion criteria. Postpartum women with breast engorgement, mastitis, fever, Postpartum Hemorrhage, and consumption medicines was excluded as a participant. The measurement of breast milk volume used a Spectra brand breast pumping, measuring cylinder to determine the volume. The digital scales are used to weigh the samples. The pumping session is carried out after breastfeeding the infant for one hour. The pressure of the breast pump is adjusted to the comfort of the participants. The duration of the pumping session is carried out for one hour; 30 minutes on the right and left breast. The results, in maternal age we found no difference between group A and group B (mean of maternal age 31.88 ± 4.55 vs. 26.88 ± 6.20, p-value = 0.087). No difference was found between Vigna Cylindrica leaves administration and Carica Papaya leaves administration with p-value = 0.533. Therefore, the dose of Vigna Cylindrica leaves and Carica Papaya leaves is required.
