Abstract

Retrospective single-center review between 2006 and 2008 Thrombolysis of thrombosed native arteries and arterial bypasses was performed with Uni-Fuse multihole catheters (AngioDynamics, Latham, NY) in 69 cases and EKOS ultrasound-accelerated catheters (EKOS Corporation, Bothell, Wash) in 22 cases. All patients were initially treated with the power-pulse feature of an AngioJet catheter (Boston Scientific, Marlborough, Mass) administering 10 mg of alteplase (tissue plasminogen activator [tPA]) followed 20 minutes later by rheolytic catheter-directed thrombectomy. Residual thrombus was treated with either Uni-Fuse or EKOS catheters with tPA infused at 0.5 to 2.0 mg/h overnight. The mean duration of thrombolysis, mean volume of tPA, technical success, and complications were similar in both groups. The standard multihole infusion catheter demonstrates similar clinical safety and efficacy as the ultrasound-accelerated EKOS system to treat acute arterial limb ischemia.
