Abstract
Abstract In this study, two methods of teaching beginning basketball were compared—one pupil-dominated and the other teacher-dominated. Two physical education classes totaling 75 seventh-grade girls were used as subjects. Comparison of the two groups was on the basis of group dynamics as measured by sociometric tests, the quality of performance in competition, and finally the scoreboard status of the two groups when competing against each other. It was found that the pupil-dominated technique had certain advantaegs in terms of bringing least-liked individuals into the group and in terms of improving some aspects of team performance.
