Abstract

Additive manufacturing is a technology increasingly used in industry because of its ability to produce parts with complex shapes. The main objective of the research was to determine wear due to friction and corrosion (tribocorrosion) and to determine the dominant wear mechanism at different ball loads for Inconel 718 manufactured by laser powder bed fusion and cast process. Additively manufactured IN718 produced by LPBF method shows higher resistance to both tribocorrosion at 3.5% NaCl and only mechanical wear than material produced by casting. For both tested variants of IN718 material, tribocorrosion wear was significantly higher than purely mechanical wear. The test results provide a guide for the design of IN718 components that may be subject to wear due to friction and corrosion.
