Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of three kinds of foldable intraocular lens (IOL) with different acrylic materials on posterior capsule opacification (PCO) after phacoemulsification. Methods A total of 960 patients (964 eyes) who had phacoemulsification and implantation of acrylic IOLs. Their clinical data were retrospectively analyzed. Group A included 310 eyes with implantation of Sensar IOL and group B includ-ed 332 eyes with implantation of three piece acrylic AcrySof IOL. Group C included 322 eyes with implanta-tion of three piece acrylic AcrySof IOL. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), the rate of PCO were evaluated after the surgery. Results The rotes of PCO with the one piece AcrySof IOL and three pieces AcrySof IOL were3.7% and 7.5%. The rate in group A was 13.5% at 24 months, respectively. One piece IOL group was better than group A and B. (P<0.05). Conclusions This study shows a low rate of PCO in patients who receive one piece acrylic AcrySof lenses when compared to those who receive three piece acrylic lenses. Key words: Posterior capsule opacification; Intraocular lenses; Phacoemulsification
