Abstract

This paper introduces a conversion system based on Z-source converter which aims to control the output voltage in a small scale PMSG based wind turbine. The output voltage changes with time in such a generation systems because it is related to wind velocity. On the other hand, traditional converters, such as V-source and C-source converters, operate just as buck or boost converters because of shoot through duty cycle limitations; thus a new topology, with the help of a PI controller, can operate properly as either buck or boost converter in different conditions is needed. The control strategy is developed in this paper and the results including DC gain, control signal, DC output and output voltages are presented for various wind speeds.
