Abstract
The Merckoquant 10007 nitrite test strip was compared with the conventional test in determining nitrate reduction by bacteria. 659 strains, comprising 83 genera and 283 species, were examined; seven types of nitrate broths were utilized. A 99.24% correlation was observed between the results of the two tests. A 100% correlation was observed when metallic zinc was added to the negative nitrate broths and nitrite test strips to determine if reduction had proceeded past the nitrite stage.
