Abstract

In this paper, we have compared the fault characteristics of IPM (Interior Permanent Magnet) and SPM (Surface mounted Permanent Magnet)-type BLDC (Brushless DC) motors under ITF (Inter-Turn Faults) conditions by using the WFT (Winding Function Theory) for analyzing the inductance. In addition, to determine the model that is more preventable in ITF, we compared the RTRI (Rate of Torque Ripple Increase), RICI (Rate of Input Current Increase), and RCCC (Rate of Circulating Current Change) under ITF conditions in IPM and SPM-type BLDC motors. Finally, for improving the characteristics of the output torque of the IPM-type BLDC motor, we have driven the motor using phase advanced angle control.
