Abstract

Piezoelectric material has unique electro-mechanical property, which encourages its use in the smart structure. The performance of a piezoelectric material strongly depends on the piezoelectric strain coefficient and dielectric constant. These piezoelectric properties can get affected by environmental factors like the electric field, humidity, aging, temperature, etc. In this paper variation in the piezoelectric strain coefficient and dielectric constant with temperature are considered in the finite element model of a smart dynamic structure. Time response of sensor voltage is observed for PZT-5H (Lead Zirconate Titanate) and PLZT (Lanthanum doped Lead Zirconate Titanate) piezoelectric sensors. The response of PLZT sensor is much more linear as compared to the PZT-5H sensor with the variation in temperature.
