Abstract

During this century the ecology of the red fox (Vulpes vulpes, L.) has been studied throughout its biogeographic (Holarctic, Oriental, Australasian, Northern Neotropical and African) range. In recent decades interest in the European red fox has increased because of its occurrence in practically all biotopes and due to its role as a predator and scavenger, its importance in the transmission of rabies, and to the economy of farmers and hunters.
