Abstract
Surgery/chemoradiotherapy (CRT) for advanced head and neck cancers (HNCA) potentially causes eating and swallowing morbidity. Validated tools exist to study quality of life (QoL) in these patients (pts) such as the MD Anderson Dysphagia Inventory (MDADI) and the University of Michigan Head & Neck Quality of Life (HNQOL) questionnaires. Both assess swallowing, but the MDADI is a focused and comprehensive tool, while the HNQOL instrument assesses swallowing as one domain. In outcomes analysis, both tools may not be used systematically.
