Abstract

A comparison of friction measurements of a commercially available elastomer seal arrangement on a conventional chrome countersurface and alternative hard HVOF coated WCCoCr and NiCr-BSi surfaces has been carried out. Transient short stroke conditions are recorded in real time considering instroke and outstroke friction at 30 bar fluid pressure, applicable to the landing gear application. Snapshot data are taken, and the implications of using each of the coating systems on the sealing performance of the landing gear are discussed.
