Abstract

The computer simulation of road traffic is an important tool for analysis and control of traffic networks. Because a detailed simulation of a large traffic network can be computationally intensive, many simulators have been adapted for distributed computing environment, where combined power of multiple connected computers is utilized. An important issue of the distributed traffic simulation is the division of the traffic network into sub-networks. In this paper, we present the Macroscopic-Simulation-Based Division (MaSBD) and the Microscopic-Simulation-Based Division (MiSBD) methods, which are both focused on uniform load of the resulting sub-networks. The results of the testing and comparison of both methods are also part of this paper.
