Abstract

Designing energy efficient and economically viable buildings requires a detailed building energy simulation program to facilitate in-depth evaluation of alternative designs. It further requires that the program predictions will match reasonably well with actual energy performance of the buildings. In order to demonstrate that the building energy simulation programs HTB2 and BECON can fulfil this requirement, the daily and monthly electricity consumption of four existing commercial office buildings in Hong Kong have been evaluated from metered consumption records and compared with predictions of the programs. The comparison showed that the predictions would match well with the metered records provided that the input dato can reflect realistic piant performance, including the deteriorotion in performance as at the time the metered records were taken.
