Abstract

1. 1. The properties of peptide hydrolases active against gly-leu, gly-phe, leu-leu and phe-gly were compared in brush border and cytosol fractions from rat and guinea-pig intestinal mucosa. 2. 2. No electrophoretically distinct brush border peptidases were detected at two different pH values, i.e. pH 7·4 and pH 8·4. 3. 3. In general, rat brush border hydrolases were much more resistant to heat (2 hr, 50°C) and PCMB (10- 4M) than hydosol hydrolases. With one exceptio, no such differences were detected with guinea-pig hydrolases. 4. 4. Gly-leu hydrolase activity from both rat and guinea-pig was especially sensitive to PCMB.
