Abstract
We have recently introduced the physiology Core Concepts into our introductory anatomy and physiology lecture classes, both online and onsite. In each of two sequential terms of anatomy and physiology our students are working through disease descriptions to learn about the Core Concepts. Both online and onsite classes are using common disease descriptions, although they are being deployed in different manners in the two formats; the disease descriptions are embedded in the discussion boards for online classes while they are used for groupwork and discussion in onsite classes. The students in both formats of these courses are also being evaluated using the same set of assessment questions. A comparison between the two formats of the understanding of the Core Concepts as demonstrated through the assessments, as well as information on challenges and successes in deploying this strategy with our nontraditional students, is provided. A Howard Hughes Medical Institute Inclusive Excellence 3 Award enables our part-time faculty to travel to the American Physiology Summit. This is the full abstract presented at the American Physiology Summit 2024 meeting and is only available in HTML format. There are no additional versions or additional content available for this abstract. Physiology was not involved in the peer review process.
