Abstract

A comparison is made between the use of single and multimode optical fibers in a homodyne quasi-elastic light scattering experiment using simple optical hardware. The single-mode fiber is used without a spatial filter and gives a larger signal-to-noise ratio and counting rate than a multimode fiber with a spatial filter.
