Abstract

923 This study compares the two compartment model to the three and four (4C) compartment models in the body composition of aging men (MEN), women either on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or not on HRT (NHRT). The Bod Pod (BP) was validated against the criterion method, hydrostatic weighing (HW). Body Density (Db) from the BP and HW, bone density via a Lunar densitometer and total body water via deuterium tracer were measured to assess compartmental models. (Table)TableComparing the 2C to the 4C model, no differences were found between the NHRT (p<.6) or any other group. Men had higher Db than women (p<.000), but a 3X2 ANOVA showed no difference between Db BP or HW. BP was not different from the HW in the 4C model. These results show the DbBP is valid for multi-compartment models in these groups. Supported by NIH-NCRR-ORMH-P20 RR11805.
