Abstract
This paper presents a comparative study between different finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) strategies for electric drives based on the six-phase permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) with surface mounted permanent magnets (PMs). Special emphasis is given to predictive current control (PCC) and predictive torque control (PTC) strategies, where a proportional-integral (PI) controller is used to generate the reference value of the torque-producing current component or the reference torque. Simulation results obtained with the different control strategies are presented, their performance is compared, and their strengths and weaknesses are analyzed.
