Abstract

By a carotid artery injection technique in the dog 2 new contrast agents have been tested for toxicity. A mixture of sodium, methylglucamine, calcium and magnesium metrizoate alters arterial blood pressure and heart rate more than a pure methylglucamine metrizoate. Also, a mixture of sodium, methylglucamine, calcium and magnesium iothalamate alters arterial blood pressure and heart rate more than pure methylglucamine iothalamate. The results are considered applicable to cerebral angiographic techniques but not necessarily to other angiographic procedures.
