Abstract

Nowadays, there is an increasing demand for bandwidth along with mobility. Multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system can provide a perfect solution for this even in urban situations. This work deals with the performance comparison of MIMO and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems, which are majorly used in current innovative technologies for data transmission. OFDM is a multi-carrier modulation method with a single antenna configuration, which is very much common in modern cellular networks for digital broadcasting, audio streaming, and 4G mobile communications. MIMO system is among the most successful wireless technologies due to multiple-antenna configuration, which can increase the performance and spectrum efficiency of communication systems. Analysis is done with equalizers such as zero forcing and minimum mean square error with modulation techniques viz. M-QAM and BPSK. Performance metrics such as BER vs SNR and MSE vs SNR are considered for comparing the aforementioned system performance in transmitting three forms of data viz. audio, image, and text through Rayleigh channel model.
