Abstract

Abstract This work addresses the optimal location of Renewable Energy Sources (RES), specifically Photovoltaic Generators (PVG), in Energy Distribution Systems (EDS) aiming at minimizing energy losses, treated as a combinatorial optimization problem. The optimal locations are modified by the metaheuristics selected for this work: Generic Algorithm (GA), Differential Evolutionary Algorithm (DEA), Tabu Search (TS) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The objective was to verify the aptitude of the methods to solve the proposed problem and to compare them with each other. The performances were verified in the IEEE 123 bus test system. OpenDSS was used to calculate the power flow and Matlab to program the optimization methods. The 4 methods were efficient, presenting solutions that indicated reduction of energy losses, with emphasis on the GA and the TS, which presented the best reduction averages and the lowest standard deviations.
