Abstract
Introduction: Measurement of end-tidal carbon dioxide (PE'CO2) provides continuous non-invasive estimation of arterial carbon dioxide partial pressure (PaCO2). Agreement can be affected by the high respiratory rates and shallow tidal volumes of rabbits, especially when anesthetizing with a non-rebreathing system and high fresh gas flows. Capnometer function may be improved by increasing tidal volume and decreasing respiratory rate with mechanical lung ventilation.
