Abstract
The article deals with the comparison of the Lepidoptera of natural and exploited peat bogs of Lithuania. The research was carried out in Cepkeliai raised bog, Balosa and Palios peatlands during 1999. 221 Lepidoptera species was recorded in Cepkeliai raised bog, 203 in Balosa peatland, and 170 in Palios peatland. Balosa and Palios former peat bogs were revealed to show the species composition characteristic of forests and meadows. The transformation of peat bogs was disclosed to lead to the decrease or extinction of tyrphobiontic and tyrphophilous Lepidoptera species. So tyrphoneutral Lepidoptera species predominated in Balosa and Palios peatlands, while tyrphophilous and tyrphobiontic – in Cepkeliai raised bog. The composition of the species showed the Lepidoptera communities of Balosa and Palios peatlands to be unstable and of the secondary origin.
