Abstract

The paper compares the properties of latex-modified portland cement mortars made using 5 different types of latex that are commonly used as admixtures for portland cement mixes. Selected colloidal and polymeric properties of latexes are described. The latex modified mortars are compared for water-cement ratio, permeability, adhesion, compressive strength, flexural strength, weathering resistance, freeze-thaw resistance, acid resistance, and carbonation resistance. The results are discussed, and recommended applications for the various latex types of modifying mortars are suggested.
