Abstract

This paper discusses, in general terms, comparisons between land disposal and sea dumping of radioactive wastes. It begins with an outline of the scope of comparisons and goes on to discuss techniques which can be used to aid decisions on appropriate disposal methods, taking into account the wide range of factors involved. Two examples of comparisons are given, both focusing on the long term radiological impacts of disposal, and conclusions are drawn on whether these impacts are likely to be a major factor in comparisons.
