Abstract

The use of proxy measures such as the c difficile Lab ID event has been used to identify C difficile incidence and prevalence rates, and has been proposed as an efficient tool to perform surveillance and to guide infection prevention efforts. Increased attention to HAIs as a safety and quality issue has led to public health reporting requirements and a focus on quality improvement activities. Traditional surveillance to detect C difficle disease is labor intensive. The use of proxy measures can be useful to identify issues and provide actionable information.
