Abstract

Matched computer codes based on local-lattice and dense-gas models have been used to simulate ion backscattering at the energies typical of plasma-surface interactions. The results show that gas-like models overestimate the effective nuclear stopping of the ions in the solid and hence these models must be applied with caution in the theoretical prediction of ion reflection.
