Abstract

With the growing interest in DC power transmission/distribution, the interest in the DC circuit breaker is also growing. The objectives of this paper are to propose a new type of inverse current injecting HVDC circuit breaker suitable for the multi-terminal network and to compare the result with the previous research. In addition, this paper uses the prototype produced to verify its feasibility through the current interruption test. The proposed DC circuit breaker provides ultra-fast interruption speed, and, while using a smaller capacitor, has higher interruption margin than that of the classical DC circuit breakers.
