Abstract

Abstract Cotton was planted on 21 May at the Eastern Shore Agricultural Research and Extension Center, Painter, VA. Each plot consisted of 6 rows 25 ft long with 3 ft spacing between rows. Approximately 100 seeds were planted/row. Each treatment was replicated 4 times in a RCB. The two outside rows of each plot were used as untreated guard rows. Two plots of each cultivar were planted in each replication; one plot was treated and the other was left untreated. The cultivars evaluated in this study were the Bt transgenic cultivars HX 5170 and HX 6304 and their non-transgenic equivalents, H 1215 and H 1277, respectively. The following thresholds were used in making spray decisions in the treated plots: 10% of terminals with BW eggs (non-transgenic cultivars only), 3% of bolls with live BW or ECB and/or fresh feeding damage (all cultivars), and 1 stinkbug/25 sweeps (transgenic cultivars only). GSB was the only stinkbug species observed. Application dates and materials are listed in the spray schedule table.
