Abstract

Objective To investigate and compare the pathological causes of azospermia in Shandong and Zhejiang provinces and that in different range of ages in China. Methods Testicular biopsies of 95 men with azospermia from Zhejiang province and 202 from Shandong province were reevaluated retrospectively. Results Of the 297 cases,28.61% were classified as obstructive azospermia,8.41% were hypospermatogenesis,32.65% were spermatocytic arrest,20.53% were sertoli cell only,9.76% were tubular fibrosis. The rates of obstructive azospermia in Zhejiang and Shandong province were 36.84% and 24.75% respectively, and the difference reached statistic significant(P=0.04).The rates of obstructive azospermia in men below the age of 30 and men in age of 30 and above were 24.52% and 33.82% respectively, and the rates of spermatocytic arrest of the two age groups were 38.82% and 21.17% respectively, both the differences reached statistic significant(P=0.02,P=0.01).One hundred and thirty-three cases with bilateral testicular biopsy showed similar morphological changes in both testes. Conclusions The constitutions of pathological causes of azospermia in different parts of China and in different age groups were different from each other.Histopathology changes in both testes were similar to each other in men with azospermia.
