Abstract

Summary Acid secretion in response to subcutaneous injection of 0.04 mg. of histamine acid phosphate per kilogram of body weight (augmented histamine test) and of 50 mg., 100 mg., or 200 mg. of Histalog was compared in human subjects. The mean peak rate of secretion was almost identical with the augmented histamine test and with 50 mg. of Histalog. Histalog in doses of 100 mg. or 200 mg. produced peak rates of secretion higher than those obtained with 50 mg. of Histalog or the augmented histamine test. In dogs with Heidenhain pouches or gastric fistulas the maximal rates of secretion in response to histamine and to Histalog were not significantly different.
