Abstract

SummaryHand set and reverse plated diamond dressing rollers are the two most common types used in continuous dress creep feed grinding. Their application and method of manufacture have been described by other authors, but their comparative performance under continuous dressing conditions has not been reported. Creep feed grinding of Nickel based alloys was performed by the continuous dressing method. Various table speeds and wheel to diamond roller speed ratios were used with both types of dressers. It was shown that higher grinding forces were developed when the wheel was dressed by the reverse plated dresser. This result is consistent with a theoretical modelling of the interaction of diamonds and the wheel cutting surface which takes into account diamond spacing, speed ratio and dresser infeed rate.
