Abstract

Objective: Early follicular phase leuprolide acetate (LA) has been used in poor responders to achieve a “flare” in the endogenous FSH prior to injectable gonadotropins. While studies have demonstrated this flare following natural cycles, none have documented the rise of FSH to LA following one-month administration of oral contraceptives (OCPs). OCPs are frequently used prior to IVF cycles, including LA flare protocols, to synchronize follicular development. However the duration of hypothalamic pituitary suppression following OCPs is unknown. This study aims to compare the endogenous gonadotropin (FSH, LH) and steroid (estrogen, progesterone) flare responses observed after administration of 1mg of LA subcutaneously in poor responders, with or without prior hypothalamic pituitary suppression with OCPs.
