Abstract

Six different filter combinations have been compared in immunofluorescent staining procedures with FITC-conjugates, for fluorescence intensity, non-specific staining and fading. The results suggest that the rate of fading is correlated with the initial fluorescene intensity, whereas the relation of specific to non-specific staining depends on the transmission of the exciter filter used. These results emphasize the need for standardization of filter combinations used for different purposes in immufluorescent staining.
