Abstract

Vacuum circuit breakers are an important alternative in medium voltage gas-insulated switching equipment due to the environmental concerns of SF 6. This study aims to examine and compare medium voltage SF6 and vacuum circuit breakers in terms of their electromechanical properties such as opening time, closing time, contact wipe, contact stroke and total distance. The motion curve and opening/closing times are tested by OMICRON CIBANO 500 with proper accessories. These tests are carried out on the 36kV rated voltage SF 6 circuit breaker and vacuum circuit breaker manufactured by the Armtek Electric brand located in Ankara, Turkey.
