Abstract

Recently, biosynthesis method is a safety, environmentally friendly, single step, rapid and cost-effective, and it has attracted the attention of researchers due to more advantageous over chemical and physical methods. In the current research, zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles have been synthesized by the green (using Juglans regia L. leaf extract) and chemical methods. The ZnO NPs were characterized by UV–visible (UV–VIS) spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) to determine the morphology and size of the nanoparticles. Since different concentrations of walnut leaf extract and zinc acetate were used, the ZnO NPs were formed with different structures and size. Particles showed spherical, flower shape and irregular surface morphology. Also, the antimicrobial effect of ZnO nanoparticles was done against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii resistant strain. The comparison of different properties of zinc oxide nanoparticles synthesized by the green and chemical methods was done. The antimicrobial effect of ZnO nanoparticles synthesized by the green method was more than the chemical. Cytotoxicity assay showed that cytotoxicity of ZnO nanoparticles synthesized by the green method was less than chemical ZnO.
