Abstract
Abstract Introduction: C-reactive protein (CRP) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) are associated with carotid stenosis. Few prospective data comparing these markers exist. Methods: Serum hs-CRP and LDL were measured in fifty-eight men referred for possible carotid stenosis. All underwent duplex ultrasound of their carotid bifurcations. We prospectively compared CRP vs. LDL in predicting disease. Results: CRP correlated with stenosis (r = 0.52, p Conclusions: CRP may be a stronger predictor of carotid stenosis than LDL, and may provide additional diagnostic value.
