Abstract

This paper presents implementation of Sigmoid based adaptive Least Mean Square algorithm for control of Shunt Active Power Filter for the application of power quality improvement in distribution system. The Shunt Active Power Filter is used for harmonic current compensation and power factor correction at the point of common coupling. The Sigmoid based algorithm is more robust to momentary impulsive outlier conditions in the system than corresponding order's generalized algorithm. A comparative study is performed between Adaline based and Sigmoid based Least Mean Square algorithm. The implementation and analysis are done using software environment MATLAB/Simulink.
