Abstract

Abstract In the proposed method for determining calcium in animal feeds and ingredients, the ashed sample is dissolved in dilute HCl, pH is adjusted to 5.5—6.0 with KOH solution, and the solution potential is measured with an ion exchange calcium electrode. Statistical evaluation of the experimental data, as measured by the standard deviation and coefficient of variation, shows that the recovery and reproducibility of the electrode method compare favorably with the official AOAC method. Advantages of the proposed method are the reduction of analytical steps and the saving of analytical time.
