Abstract
In vitro experiments with calf thymus DNA demonstrated that both 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8OHdG) and 5-hydroxymethyluracil (5OHmU) are formed by H202 and Fe2+ in a concentration dependent fashion. Mannitol completely inhibited 8OHdG while 50HmU formation was only partially inhibited. Equimolar concentrations of EDTA and Fe2+ stimulated adduct formation. Singlet oxygen, generated in reaction mixtures containing methylene blue and light, resulted in formation of both 8OHdG and 5OHmU.KeywordsMethylene BlueSinglet OxygenPotassium PhosphateEquimolar ConcentrationReactive Oxygen IntermediateThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
