Abstract

Several fracture models were proposed to explain the experimental failure observations of piezoelectric ceramics, among which the Polarization Saturation (PS) model [1] and the Dielectric Breakdown (DB) model [2] are the most important ones. These two models were established based on different physical pictures. The difference between these two models is needed to be further studied. In this paper, the numerical solutions are obtained for these two models by using dislocation theory. The extended displacement discontinuity, the electric yielding zones, the extended intensity factors and the local J-integrals based on these models are calculated. The results show that the DB model gives almost the same results as the PS model.
