Abstract

ABSTRACT Comparison between numerical analysis by the PLAXIS 3D – finite element method and experiment measurement by the Viet Nam Standard “TCVN 4195:2012; TCVN 4199:1995” for the dry density and shear resistance variations with different depths (groundwater level variations) is shown clearly with the particular process. Results show that dry unit weight (density) increases gradually with the increase in different depths. The maximum deviation of the dry unit weight (dry density) and shear resistance according to the constant loading (P) at the different depths included the dry density (γ k ) value of 16.26 kN/m2 and shear resistance (τmax) of 72.7 kN/m2 at 4.3 m, whereas shear resistance (τmax) of 41.6 kN/m2, 27.1 kN/m2, 91.8 kN/m2, 98.2 kN/m2, and 82.9 kN/m2 at 7.0 m, 18.0 m, 27.0 m, 30.3 m, and 39.6 m, respectively. Results show the small deviation together, but some values presented changes remarkably. Thus, this study provides reliable reference in geotechnical engineering for researchers in the future.
