Abstract

In this paper, a comparison is made between two techniques used in ECG (electrocardiogram) compression. These two techniques are Legendre moments that based on orthogonal polynomials and DCT (discrete cosine transform), one of the common used techniques in ECG compression. With sampling rate of 256 Hz and compression ratio 5:1, experimental results show that the reconstructed signals obtained by using Legendre moments has lower error than by using DCT. Besides that, compression using Legendre moments can filter out the noise in the original signals. The error between the original ECG signals and reconstructed ECG signals is measured using RMSE ( root mean square error).
