Abstract

Abstract This paper presents results on the comparison of using two interval methods for the reduction of overestimation in the validated solution of Initial Value Problems (IVP) for Ordinary Differential Equations (ODE). The interval methods used are the Krawczyk contractor and the Newton contractor. The use of these interval contractors significantly enhances the tightness of the upper and lower bounds obtained when applied to an interval Taylor series method. The algorithms were applied to two reactor examples to demonstrate the effectiveness of the methods.
